🚨 LIVE tomorrow, September 21st! 🚨

On episode #444 of Dave Tate's Table Talk Podcast, Dave sits down with Steve DeNovi.

Steve DeNovi is a powerlifting coach from Springfield, Missouri and the owner of Progressive Resistance Systems. He started lifting in 2013 in St. Louis and got hurt almost immediately. Injuries followed him for his entire competitive career, and that failure became the specialty he built a business on: getting injury-prone lifters back onto the platform.

In fourteen years of coaching he has worked with first-time competitors, masters lifters past seventy, strongman national champions, and in 2023 the top drug-tested female powerlifter in the world. His athletes have won four IPF world titles, an IPF World Champion of Champions title, twelve national championships and a strongman national title, and two have competed at the Sheffield Powerlifting Championships.

He is also one of the most productive media operators in drug-tested powerlifting. He co-hosts 2 White Lights with Angelo Fortino, co-founded the coach education platform Powerlifting Now with Matt Cronin, Marcellus Williams and Sean Noriega, launched the training platform Strength Now, and runs the PRs Performance YouTube channel. He has an MBA in marketing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, which is a large part of why this conversation goes where it does.

Dave and Steve get into the injuries that ended his own lifting, what it means to coach a world champion when you haven’t competed since 2019, why he thinks the fix for a bad squat is usually a different bar and not a louder cue, the gut cut method he is known for, the politics of covering a sport you coach in, and how much of the modern online coaching industry is a marketing business wearing a lab coat.
