## Caption

Five years ago, George Floyd’s life was stolen by the Minneapolis Police Department.

Today, we remember him as more than a name in a headline. George was a brother, a son, a friend—a human being with a family who loved him and a community that continues to mourn him. His life was precious. It was full. It should never have been taken.
His murder exposed, once again, the brutal truth Black communities have always known: that this country was built on systems that devalue Black life and that state violence is a constant threat. George’s murder was not an isolated incident—it was part of a long, violent American legacy that includes Breonna Taylor, Atatiana Jefferson, and so many others whose names we carry with us. In the days and months that followed, millions of people took to the streets demanding change—not just in Minneapolis, but across the country and the world.

That demand has not gone away.

A guilty verdict is not the same as justice. Real justice is George Floyd alive today. Real justice is dismantling the systems that killed him. It’s transforming the conditions that criminalize Black life and punish Black people for surviving.

We honor George Floyd not only with remembrance, but with action. We carry forward the fight to make sure his name doesn’t fade by demanding the justice he was denied. We continue the fight to dismantle the systems that took him, and to build a future where no one’s life is treated as expendable. The movement sparked in his name lives on in our streets, in our organizing, in our shared acts of care and in every refusal to accept violence as normal. We are still demanding—and building—a world where Black lives are valued, protected, and free.

George Floyd should still be alive. And we won’t stop until the systems that stole him are gone.
