A NIGHT TO REMEMBER IN NEWBERRY 🐾🏈
NEWBERRY, FL — Under the Friday night lights, the Newberry Panthers delivered a moment Panther Nation won’t soon forget.
Newberry battled powerhouse Cocoa until the final seconds and walked away with a thrilling 14–13 victory, earning its first win of the 2026 season.

Cocoa entered the matchup carrying the tradition of a program with seven state championships, but on this night, Newberry refused to back down.
The Panthers trailed 13–6 at halftime before their defense continued to give the offense opportunities. Javeon Long made an impact on both sides of the ball, including an interception that helped set up Newberry’s first points, while kicker Kaiden Bush connected on two field goals to keep the Panthers within striking distance.

Then came the fourth quarter.
With rain beginning to fall and Newberry’s chances slipping away, the Panthers were given new life. Quarterback Zaden Wilcox eventually scrambled 12 yards into the end zone, pulling Newberry within one, 13–12, with just 1:09 remaining.
What happened next turned an already dramatic Friday night into one Panther Nation will remember.

A bad snap on the extra-point attempt sent the play into chaos. Keyondre Williams recovered the loose football, kept the play alive and found Lamareion Davis in the end zone for the two-point conversion.
NEWBERRY 14. COCOA 13.

But it wasn’t over.
Cocoa drove back into scoring position and attempted a potential game-winning field goal. The Panthers got a hand on the kick, sending it off target and sealing the victory.
The Newberry sideline erupted.
The stands erupted.
And Panther team and coaches rushed the field.
This was more than a final score. It was a night of resilience, belief and refusing to quit when everything seemed to be going against you.
