Filippi’s Pizza Grotto has been part of the San Diego food scene since 1950, but the family’s local story actually began a few years earlier. Vincent and Madeleine DePhilippis moved to San Diego in 1947 and opened Cash & Carry Italian Foods on India Street before launching what would become Filippi’s Pizza Grotto.

Today, the restaurants are still owned and operated by members of the founders’ family, continuing to serve the traditional Italian family recipes that have kept generations coming back. ❤️

There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about a spot where the portions are hearty, the pizza is piled with cheese 🧀, the pasta comes covered in red sauce 🍝, and the atmosphere feels unapologetically old-school.

And with locations throughout San Diego County and beyond, there’s probably a Filippi’s not too far from you. 🍕✨
