If Someone Convicted Of This Type of Crime Truly Changes, Do They Deserve A Second Chance⁉️🤔⛓️

Hamed Shafia, who was convicted alongside his parents of murdering his three teenage sisters and his father’s first wife, has been granted an escorted absence from the medium-security prison where he is serving a life sentence.

Zainab Shafia, 19, Sahar Shafia, 17, Geeti Shafia, 13, and Rona Amir Mohammad, 52, were found dead inside a vehicle submerged in the Rideau Canal in Kingston in June 2009.

Shafia and his parents were convicted in 2012 of four counts of first-degree murder. Each received a life sentence with no eligibility for parole for 25 years.

The Parole Board has now approved Hamed for a brief escorted visit to a minimum-security facility, citing progress while saying a gradual approach remains necessary. His separate request for an escorted visit to a mosque was denied.

The case became one of Canada’s most widely reported murder trials, with the trial judge describing the killings as being motivated by the family’s “twisted concept of honour.”
