For years, I realized I could blend in when I wore pants because people didn’t immediately see my prosthetic legs.

In some ways, I think that helped me walk into big rooms and be seen as a person first, not defined by my disability.

Even on DWTS, Derek and I made a conscious choice at times not to make my prosthetic legs the focus. I wanted people to see me as a competitor, not someone to underestimate.

But watching ezrafrech walk onto that ballroom floor last week, so confident, prosthetic leg fully visible, and hearing him speak so clearly about his mission to normalize disability really got me thinking.

We all represent in different ways, and there’s no right or wrong way to do it.

But maybe inclusion isn’t about all of us blending in.
Maybe it’s about creating a world where we can stand out and our differences are so present, so visible, and so represented that they become completely normal to see.

Prosthetic legs. Wheelchairs. Scars. Different bodies. Different ways of moving through the world.

The more we see them, the less unusual they become.

And somewhere in that visibility, someone else gets to look up and think:

“There’s room for me here, too.” 🤍
