The silver-and-blue BMW M3 GTR from Need for Speed: Most Wanted has become one of the most recognizable cars in gaming history.

The design was inspired by BMW’s real E46 M3 GTR race car, which used a 4.0-liter V8 and competed in the American Le Mans Series.

But for millions of players, this livery will always be remembered as the hero car from the 2005 Most Wanted storyline.

Nearly two decades later, seeing a real-world tribute roll past still instantly brings back memories of Rockport, Razor and those endless police chases.

Some cars are iconic because of racing history, while others become legends through an entire generation’s memories, and this one managed to do both.
