The list will still be there.

The dishes won’t be hurt by waiting. The laundry won’t hold it against me. The trash will survive another hour.

But these boys won’t be this small for long. And whether they remember this moment consciously or not — this time is going into them. The warmth of it. The stillness of it. The fact that I chose them over the list.
