She couldn’t hear her son’s games. She didn’t miss a single game.

Kim White was deaf and raising five children largely on her own. Then 4 of them fell in love with hockey.

It was an expensive sport, and money was tight. She worked multiple jobs while the community helped the family stay on the ice.

But the harder part wasn’t always financial. Her sons were sometimes mocked for signing to each other at the rink. Kim never let those moments decide whether they belonged there.

She kept showing up. And she gave all five of her children something that mattered far beyond hockey, confidence and resilience to show up always.

Years later, when Ozzy reached the NHL, he introduced himself to the arena in sign language and made sure his mother was part of that moment.

Some parents give their children opportunities.
