Her mother quit her job for Mikaela Shiffrin, before she had a single major sponsor.

Before the records, Mikaela’s parents rebuilt their lives around her skiing.

Her mother left nursing to travel with her daughter full-time, while her father stayed back working as an anesthesiologist and used his vacation days to fly out to races.

But their parenting went far beyond getting her to the mountain.

They built coordination through juggling and a unicycle. They taught her to focus on the person she was becoming, not the scoreboard.

And three rules stayed at the center of everything: be nice, think first, have fun.

Mikaela became the most successful alpine ski racer in World Cup history.

But perhaps the most powerful part is what happened after her father died. She put those three rules on her helmet  and still carries them down the mountain.
