Although Auburn and Florida haven't played yearly since 2003, the two orange-and-blue teams have a deeply historical relationship.

The two teams met on the gridiron for the first time in 1912. Auburn won 27-13 and would be victorious in the first six meetings.

From 1918 to 1926, the teams didn't face each other. Florida won the first five games when the games resumed in 1927. The Gators would go 9-5-1 from 1927 until the next stoppage in play in 1941.

Between 1941 and 1944, in part due to World War II, the Tigers and Gators only met once. Starting in 1945, the conference foes would face off yearly for nearly six decades. Since 2003, the two teams have only played each other four times.

In 1939, Auburn hosted the first game in the brand-new Auburn Stadium against the Gators. The game ended in a 7-7 tie. Florida fell in every subsequent meeting at Auburn for 39 years, until 1975, Shug Jordan's final season as coach.

The 1957 season was Auburn's first national championship title, but also was the first time the Tigers and Gators met in a ranked battle. The #4-ranked Auburn team would hold #19 Florida scoreless, winning 13-0.

Auburn upset #4 Florida in 1993, and Pat Nix floated one to Frank Sanders to defeat #1 Florida in 1994. Auburn would upset #1 Florida in 2001, #2 Gators in 2006, and Wes Byrum chomped back at the Swamp in 2007 to beat #4 Florida.

A few games were even color-on-color, like 1945's meeting, where Auburn wore all navy and the Gators appear to have gone all orange. The script changed in 1953, as Auburn wore orange and the Gators went with blue.

Auburn has seen just about every potential uniform combination from Florida, as the Gators have worn orange, blue, and white versions of their helmets, jerseys, and pants throughout their history. Florida has announced that they will wear orange helmets and pants this weekend, a repeat of the combination they wore in their last trip to the Plains in 2011.

Auburn leads the overall series 44-39-2.
