## Caption

In the early 1980s, a French oil company built a Honda-powered Grand Prix motorcycle with no telescopic front forks. Instead, the front wheel was controlled by a hub-centre steering system that separated braking and steering forces completely.

Ron Haslam raced it in actual GP competition. He said it felt unlike any other motorcycle — as if a layer of noise had been removed.

It never won a race. But engineers who studied it years later said the concept was sound. The technology just arrived thirty years too early.
