## Caption

In the 1950s, Britain made the most admired motorcycles on earth. Triumph. BSA. Norton. AJS. Matchless. By the mid-1970s, the industry was finished.

Honda arrived in 1959 with machines that didn't leak oil and didn't need a mechanic to maintain. By the mid-1960s, Honda sold more bikes in a month than BSA in a year.

The British factories held meetings. They formed committees. They did not change.

BSA collapsed in 1973. Triumph went into receivership. Norton closed. The greatest motorcycle industry on earth destroyed itself from the inside.
