Train travel offers such an incredible way to experience a destination differently. Each Belmond train journey is filled with the romance and nostalgia you would expect, but after experiencing three of them, I’ve realised just how much the pace and style can vary.

I’ve now taken a day journey, an overnight train and, most recently, a three-night journey through Cornwall aboard the Britannic Explorer. All three were wonderful, but they each suit a different type of traveller and a different approach to travel.

Here’s what I noticed about this one.

The Britannic Explorer felt less like taking a nostalgic train ride and more like exploring England from a moving hotel. We had time to settle into life onboard, but we were also regularly stepping off the train to explore St Ives, Fowey and Bruton through thoughtfully curated experiences and private access that we wouldn’t ordinarily have had.

The longer itinerary also offers an interesting value proposition. Pricing varies considerably depending on the time of year, journey and cabin category, but when compared with some shorter luxury train experiences, you may be able to spend a similar amount for three nights onboard rather than one. It’s worth looking beyond the headline price and considering how much time you’ll actually have to enjoy the train and the overall experience.

It’s also a very social way to travel. By the end of three days, everyone knew one another, and people were exchanging details and planning future visits. In a world where we’re more digitally connected than ever, there was something incredibly special about slowing down, putting our phones away and making real connections while watching the English countryside roll past.

If you’re considering a Belmond train journey, we can help you understand which train, itinerary and pace will best suit the way you like to travel, while also securing additional perks and upgrades along the way. #luxurytravel #traveladvisor #cntraveler #traveltips
