An Indian Startup Just Reached Orbit On Its First Launch, Something SpaceX Needed Four Attempts For

Skyroot Aerospace, founded by former ISRO scientists Pawan Chandana and Naga Bharat, launched Vikram-1 in July and reached orbit roughly 450km up in about 15 minutes, on its very first attempt.

For comparison, SpaceX needed four tries before Falcon 1 made it, and Rocket Lab failed its first launch too.

Vikram-1 runs three solid fuel stages plus a liquid fuel stage with a 3D-printed engine that can restart in space, all built largely from carbon composite to cut weight.

This comes just years after India opened its space sector to private companies.
