"When Part 107 came out in 2016, I had my pilot’s license and a professor suggested that I lead flight operations at a UAS research lab. It turned out to be super fun and now seeing the industry move and to have Zipline delivering hundreds of thousands of deliveries is incredible. 

Looking back on when I first got to Zipline in North Carolina, it was exciting and intimidating to do something relatively new. It has been rewarding to be part of the team that is working with the regulators to help push Zipline’s mission forward within the U.S. I get to have the opportunity to train our new U.S. flight operations crew members and pass along our high operational standards to them. Recently, all Zipline crew members completed individual checkrides with the FAA to assess our operation and training program - and we’ve been cleared to become operators, instructors and evaluators of our system in this airspace. It’s been incredible to be a part of this much progress. 

Our team takes what Zipline has learned from years of successful operations in Africa to grow access to goods in the U.S. Currently, our colleagues in Rwanda and Ghana are operating hundreds of flights per day and saving lives. I strive to have that impact in the U.S. I feel gratitude that I get to work together as a global team to move this technology into the U.S. airspace with safety as our top priority, and an openness to constantly learn and adapt.“

Today, Zipline, with thanks to our flight operators and engineers, is launching long-range aerial instant delivery in North Carolina. Three leading U.S. healthcare organizations— Novant Health, Magellan RX Management of Magellan Health, and Cardinal Health —today began routine, long-range drone deliveries in North Carolina powered by Zipline. Each partner will utilize Zipline’s service in a different way to improve patient care, implement instant delivery, and drive efficiency in North Carolina. The North Carolina Zipline distribution center is capable of serving customers within a 7,800 square mile area within 15 minutes of order placement.
