Ryan Alam is on our International Business Development team. In Ryan’s first 4 weeks at Zipline, he packed up his life from grad school, moved to Nairobi, and then hopped on flights to Ethiopia, Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, & Ghana. In Ghana, Ryan started working with Yaniv on Zipline’s first national-scale contract with the government, and led our early health systems integration with the Ministry of Health.

“Everything about our launch in Ghana felt like the stars were aligned. When I first landed, I was tired and confused. But when I finally found my Uber driver, we had an instant connection. He started telling me all about Ghana and life in Accra. He was eloquent, super smart, and happened to be in between jobs and used his car as a means of extra income. At the end of our ride, I dropped my things at the hotel and asked the driver to take me around and teach me more about his country. We stayed in touch and I called him for advice multiple times over the next few months. That driver was Abdul Latif, who has since joined Zipline - he has been a key operations leader in the early days and now, and is a culture-bearer at Zipline.

One of my most memorable moments was at the launch of the first distribution center in Omenako. There was a huge signing ceremony, international media, heads of state…the energy was high and full of adrenaline & nerves. Everything went perfectly & everyone was fired up. Afterwards, we were all in a room together - the freshly assembled Ghana team, international BD team, logistics, global operations, Keller…everyone who made the launch possible. Some people were there for the first time and some had been there for months. Someone suggested that we should share stories from the Ghana launch process. That quickly evolved into 100% of people in the room sharing 100% of themselves - deep and personal stories of how health access, or lack thereof, has affected them or loved ones, why they joined Zipline, their hopes and dreams for our company. It reminded us all of why we bring our full selves to work everyday and frankly the absolutely badass, thoughtful, and amazing team we have.” #flyzipline
