Zipline’s operations team has been working around the clock to make sure we can deliver vital medical products to our patients and customers during this pandemic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
During #covid19 we have been able to deliver hundreds of thousands of medical products and units of blood globally. We are delivering personal protective equipment around the countries we serve, transporting COVID test kits to health centers, bringing COVID tests from rural areas to central lab testing facilities, delivering cancer treatment, and ensuring that hospitals have a regular supply of vaccines for newborns and children. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This last point around vaccines is actually something worth double clicking on. During the first week of the national lockdown in Ghana, when ground transport was being strongly discouraged, Zipline delivered 4x the number of vaccines as in the previous week. This means that when all trucks were being pulled off the road, Zipline seamlessly rose to the challenge so facilities wouldn’t have to go without and have dangerous interruptions to immunizations. This is important because during COVID, it’s quite possible that the number of deaths from preventable vaccine-related diseases could outnumber the number of COVID deaths. During the West Africa Ebola outbreak from 2014-2016, for example, more people died from measles than from Ebola itself because vaccination services were cut off, patients stopped coming to get vaccines, and measles is extremely contagious. As of today, more than 2 dozen countries have already stopped routine immunizations due to COVID, causing a second health crisis.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We at Zipline are proud that we can play a small role in ensuring that vaccine supplies remain reliable and stable for the communities we serve, alongside our partners like the gavialliance , and hope we can continue to grow our reach to include more members of our global community soon. #drones #dronesforgood
