Today we celebrate our fearless team, who dropped everything for over a month - family, friends, and firm mattresses - to ship out to the outback in Australia and prove that Zipline drones can deliver blood and medical products in high-stress, military settings. This photo, we think, perfectly captures the Zipline spirit that we live and breathe every day: Standing out under the hot sun with dirty hands and dusty boots, smiling hard and radiating excitement at being able to serve more members of our global community.

In July, Zipline had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with the Department of Defense and the Naval Medical Research Center to prove that our technology can be used to save lives even in the toughest of environments. These exercises included responding to emergency delivery requests from three different locations that were simulating mass-casualty events, and delivering 150 lbs. of cargo in under three hours. These exercises also proved that the Zipline system is able to deliver medical products under these tough conditions, and could be used to serve more people in need.

Using Zipline drones to deliver medical products in high-stress, military or disaster environments is incredibly powerful, and has a lot of practical, life-saving applications. As cnbc wrote, “…the disaster relief applications for drones in the military are promising. The DoD does frequently support supply missions,” Thomas said. “That would be in a natural disaster context. Say a typhoon has just hit in the Philippines or the National Guard needs to support natural disaster recovery close by the Caribbean and Haiti or at home in the wake of another Katrina-like event. I think that is another space where Zipline could offer that resupply capability.” Congratulations to the team, and let’s keep setting the vision for what universal access to critical medical products could look like! 👏👏👏 #dronesforgood #australia
