Jayden Daniels left the game with a dislocated elbow. Here’s what that actually means.

The elbow is a hinge held together by ligaments, and a dislocation means the forearm bones shifted out of the socket. It almost always happens from a fall on an outstretched arm or a direct hit with the elbow bent. Every ligament around the joint gets stressed or torn on the way out.

The first minutes matter most. Before anyone touches the joint, the medical staff checks the artery and the nerves. The ulnar nerve runs in a groove right behind the elbow and it’s the one most at risk. That’s why you saw them take their time.

Then the big question: simple or complex. Simple means no broken bone. Complex means a fracture came with it. Simple dislocations get put back in place, rested briefly, and then moved early, because the elbow’s worst enemy after a dislocation is stiffness, not instability. Immobilize it too long and you lose motion you never get back.

The rehab is a race against scar tissue. Early protected motion, swelling control, progressive loading, and a slow rebuild of grip and arm strength. For a quarterback there’s an extra layer: the throwing motion loads the inside of the elbow on every rep, so his return depends on how the ligaments heal, not just the joint.

Timeline comes down to the first X ray and MRI. Clean and simple, weeks. Fracture or major ligament damage, months.

Credit to the Commanders and Cowboys medical staffs for a calm, careful response.
