Egyptian waste-management startup Bekia has secured $765,000 in seed funding to expand its waste collection network and launch its upcoming B2B software-as-a-service product, Bekia Next.
The investment round was led by Madica, an Africa-focused venture programme affiliated with Flourish Ventures, with participation from pan-African climate investor Catalyst Fund and Dakar-based Jambaar Capital.
Founded in 2019 by Alaa Afifi, Bekia operates a digital platform that connects households, businesses, and independent collectors with recycling facilities and industrial buyers. The Cairo-based startup has diverted over 25,000 tonnes of waste from landfills, served over 100,000 users, and built earning opportunities for more than 2,400 waste collectors.
The new capital will support the company as it expands its engineering team, launches Bekia Next to generate verified CO2-avoidance reports for enterprise clients, and tests its business model in a second African market.
