The Salvation Army is giving a historic Milwaukee building a new chapter.

Designed by Alonzo Robinson, Wisconsin’s first Black licensed architect, the building was once part of Central City Plaza, Milwaukee’s first Black-owned shopping mall.

Now, a $150,000 preservation grant will help The Salvation Army preserve the building and incorporate it into an expanded shelter project, honoring its history while creating more space to serve people in need.
