What if builders could experience a home through the eyes of an older adult? That’s exactly what NC researchers set out to explore in a new Aging in Place pilot with the Niagara Home Builders Association Niagarahba & LucchettaHomes. 

Local builders wore aging simulation suits designed to replicate challenges such as reduced mobility, muscle weakness, vision loss and limited dexterity, then navigated everyday tasks in a multi-level home at Hunter’s Pointe in Welland.

By bringing together NC’s health simulation expertise, School of Trades and industry partners, the study is exploring how experiential research can help inform better housing design for people as they age.
