#GroupHome’s “LIVIN’ PROOF” is DJ Premier in his rawest, hardest boom-bap form 🦍

The entire album was produced almost entirely front to back by DJ Premier (with Guru as executive producer), with exception of two tracks (produced by Guru (“Serious Rap Shit”) and Big Jaz (“4 Give My Sins”)). To this day, many consider it one of Preemo’s absolute finest hours behind the boards.

Premier delivered peak 1995 New York grit: dusty jazz and soul samples chopped with surgical precision, neck-snapping drums, deep rumbling bass, haunting piano stabs, and those signature razor-sharp scratches used as melodic weapons. The beats are dark, minimalist, and relentlessly hard-hitting.

From the haunting title track and the anthemic “Supa Star” (with that unforgettable Cameo flip) to “Inna City Life,” “Suspended in Time,” and “Sacrifice,” every track bangs with that unmistakable Gang Starr Foundation DNA. Premier’s production here is aggressive yet soulful, raw yet refined giving the perfect backdrop for Group Home’s street-level delivery.

This was DJ Premier at the height of his powers, crafting a classic that remains a benchmark for East Coast hardcore production.

Do you feel as though DJ Premier’s production on Group Home’s “Livin’ Proof” is one of the greatest bodies of Hip Hop production of all time? Let us know in the comments.
