The Huskers are 11-0, matching their start from 2025. But while last year’s group went on to finish 33-1 before falling in the NCAA regional final, Busboom Kelly sees a team that has another level to reach. “We were really good last year,” Busboom Kelly said. “This year, I feel like we’re really good, but there’s a lot more we can do.” Nebraska’s early-season numbers show a team leaning more heavily on serve pressure, blocking and transition offense. The Huskers have recorded 74 aces in 36 sets, exactly double the 37 aces they had through their first 11 matches last season. Nebraska is averaging 2.06 aces per set, compared with 0.95 through 11 matches in 2025. That pressure has helped Nebraska hold opponents to a nation-leading .081 hitting percentage. The Huskers are the only team in the country holding opponents below .100. At the same point last season, Nebraska led the nation by limiting opponents to .121 hitting. Nebraska also has 104 blocks through 11 matches, up from 89.5 at this point last season. The Huskers are averaging 2.89 blocks per set, compared with 2.29 in 2025. Busboom Kelly said Nebraska is leaning into the areas that can separate it from the nation’s top teams. “We’re really diving into our strengths, which is awesome,” Busboom Kelly said. “Serving, transition offense, those things that can really separate you from even the best teams in the country.” Senior middle blocker Andi Jackson is among the returning players making a leap. Jackson is hitting .479 through nonconference play, up from .351 through the first 11 matches last season. She is also averaging 1.27 blocks per set, an increase from 1.03 a year ago. Jackson said Nebraska is playing clean volleyball but is not close to satisfied. “We’re playing really good volleyball, but I think it’s also awesome that there’s still so much room for improvement for every position individually and then just overall as a team,” Jackson said. Senior setter Bergen Reilly is averaging 10.6 assists per set, up more than one assist from her 9.59 average at this point last season. Junior libero Olivia Mauch has increased her average from 2.69 digs per set through 11 matches in 2025 to 3.19 this season. Sophomore Teraya Sigler has made perhaps the largest statistical jump on the roster. After serving largely as a back-row contributor last season, Sigler has developed into a six-rotation outside hitter in 2026. She is averaging 2.61 kills per set after averaging 0.72 through Nebraska’s first 11 matches last year. Sigler is also hitting .290, up from .123, and has recorded 20 blocks after totaling three through the first 11 matches of 2025. Sigler’s expanded role now faces uncertainty after she left Wednesday’s sweep of Missouri with a right-leg injury. She did not return, but later sat behind the Nebraska bench and walked to the locker room in a boot. Busboom Kelly said after the match she was not overly worried but that the team needed to learn more. Nebraska’s attack is not matching last year’s early volume. The Huskers are averaging 13.53 kills per set, down from 14.13 through 11 matches in 2025. But their .318 hitting percentage is nearly identical to last year’s .314 mark. The Huskers believe their ability to win points in multiple ways makes the 2026 team dangerous. “First is just ball handling,” Reilly said when describing transition offense. “We can only do so much if the ball’s not on the net, but I think our back row does a great job of that.” Nebraska also believes its renovated Devaney Center spaces are helping build chemistry. Players have used the expanded locker room and film room to spend additional time together before and after practices and matches. As the Huskers turn their attention to a 20-match Big Ten schedule, they are chasing a fourth straight conference title. The league also adds a new Big Ten Tournament this season, giving Nebraska another championship opportunity.
