The Huskers and Tigers meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at John Cook Arena inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The match will air on BTN and begin at 0-0 after officials suspended the original matchup because of unsafe court conditions. Nebraska enters at 10-0, while Missouri is 7-4. The teams were part of the historic Volleyball Day at Wrigley event on Sept. 6, when collegiate volleyball was played at the 112-year-old ballpark for the first time. Kentucky defeated Penn State in the opening match, but humidity created a slippery playing surface before Nebraska and Missouri could complete the nightcap. Players struggled with traction during warmups, and crews attempted to dry and treat the court as the match began. Nebraska and Missouri played only 18 points before officials stopped the action, with the Huskers leading 11-7 in the first set. Rather than resume with that score, the schools mutually agreed to start the rescheduled match from the beginning. Huskers head coach Dani Busboom Kelly is looking forward to the match. "It's a chance for us to grow in a real gam environment that a simulation in practice can't produce." Her 3-time All-American outside hitter Harper Murray echoed a similar sentiment. "We were all really excited for that match. It's a bummer it turned out that way. But the fact we get to make it up in the Bob and give Missouri that experience to play here will be super fun." For Nebraska, the rescheduled match offers a chance to close nonconference play against a familiar opponent before beginning Big Ten play this weekend. Missouri will also use the match as its final nonconference contest before opening SEC play. The matchup carries more weight than a typical late-September nonconference date. Nebraska leads the all-time series 74-3-1 and has won 18 straight meetings against Missouri. The Tigers have not beaten the Huskers since a five-set road win on Oct. 15, 2003. The programs most recently met in the 2023 NCAA Tournament second round in Lincoln, when Nebraska swept Missouri. Nebraska’s depth has been a storyline through the early portion of the season. The Huskers have continued to get production across the lineup while handling injuries and illnesses, and coach Dani Busboom Kelly has emphasized the value of players being ready when their opportunities arrive. Harper Murray, a senior outside hitter, remains one of Nebraska’s offensive leaders, while Bergen Reilly directs a balanced attack that has featured contributions from Teraya Sigler, Andi Jackson, Manaia Ogbechie, Virginia Adriano and others. Missouri arrives after going 1-2 at the Bowling Green/Toledo Invitational last weekend. The Tigers fell in five sets to Dayton and Toledo before defeating Bowling Green in four sets. Missouri has been effective offensively this season, ranking fifth in the SEC and 19th nationally with a .287 hitting percentage. The Tigers also have a strong defensive presence at the net, ranking second in the SEC with 102.5 total blocks. Junior middle blocker Lauren Larkin leads Missouri with a .443 hitting percentage, while senior libero Ainoah Cruz has averaged 4.71 digs per set. Cruz has recorded at least 10 digs in every match this season. Nebraska will have the home-court advantage for a match that was originally designed as a neutral-site showcase. Because the Wrigley event was hosted by the Big Ten, school officials agreed to move the rescheduled match to Lincoln. The arrangement also created a unique ticket situation. The match was added to Nebraska’s season-ticket package, and current season-ticket holders received their seats at no additional charge. No additional tickets were sold. For both teams, the unusual restart creates a simple challenge: forget the 18 points played at Wrigley and treat Wednesday as a new match. The setting will be different. The stakes remain high. Nebraska will try to extend its unbeaten start and 18-match winning streak against Missouri.
