CLAUDE JUST SPOTTED A HIDDEN PATTERN IN DNA THAT SCIENTISTS HAD MISSED. 🧬🤯

Anthropic says Claude helped identify a previously uncharacterized biological system called ART — array-associated reverse transcriptases.

What caught its attention?

🧬 A reverse transcriptase enzyme
🔬 A neighboring gene with an unknown function
🔁 Long arrays of evenly spaced DNA repeats
🧠 Patterns resembling CRISPR-associated arrays

And Claude didn’t find it with a single prompt.

Anthropic says around 950 Claude agents worked for 21 hours, processing roughly 210 million tokens and analyzing more than 200,000 reverse transcriptases.

One agent examining raw DNA reportedly noticed the unusual repeat pattern and began investigating whether the pieces formed part of a larger biological system.

Human researchers then reviewed the findings and took the hypothesis into the lab.

Early experiments suggest ART’s repeat array produces distinct short RNAs — but scientists still don’t know exactly what the system does.

And that distinction is important: ART has not been shown to be a gene-editing system or a new CRISPR.

What’s fascinating is the workflow itself.

AI agents can search enormous scientific datasets, identify unusual patterns, and generate hypotheses that humans can then test experimentally.

We may be seeing a new kind of scientific discovery pipeline. 👀
