SAMOA AWAY FROM HOME 🇦🇸🇼🇸🇺🇸

In Washington, Fa’atiniotausala Siva Academy is creating a space where Samoan culture can be learned, lived and carried forward. faatiniotausala

Founded by Normani Puipui Mauga alongside a circle of dedicated women, the academy grew from Normani’s upbringing in American Samoa and her desire to cultivate that same connection to siva Samoa, pese Samoa, gagana Samoa and aganu’u in the Pacific Northwest.

For Fa’atiniotausala, the mission goes beyond dance. It is about giving young people a place to build confidence, discipline and cultural awareness while understanding who they are, where they come from and what has been entrusted to their generation.

As the academy shared with PMN+, “What has been entrusted to us must not end with us.”

That responsibility is at the heart of every siva, pese and teuga presented by their students.

This Saturday, September 26, Fa’atiniotausala will host its annual End of Term Celebration in Tacoma, Washington, featuring its biggest showcase yet. The event sold out in less than 72 hours.

“E le galo afi’a i si ona vao.” - We may be away from our homeland, but we will never forget our roots.
