Shai has a 16% chance of winning the NBA MVP on kalshi

In 2018, the gap between Stephen Curry and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander felt immeasurable. Curry was at the height of his powers, already a two-time MVP, a three-time NBA champion, and one of the defining superstars of his generation. He was changing the way basketball was played, leading Golden State alongside the greatest collection of talent in the league. Shai, meanwhile, was only beginning his NBA journey, a promising young guard entering the league with the Los Angeles Clippers and viewed primarily as a prospect whose biggest moments were still somewhere in the future. One was already defining an era; the other was simply taking his first steps toward becoming part of it.

Eight years later, the picture has completely changed. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as one of the defining players of the new era, becoming the centerpiece of Oklahoma City and one of the league’s most dominant offensive forces. His scoring, control, efficiency, and ability to take over games have made him the focal point of everything the Thunder do. Every possession feels built around him, and every opponent enters the game knowing he is the player they have to stop.

Meanwhile, Curry’s role has evolved into something different. He remains one of the most recognizable and influential players in basketball, but the league around him has changed, with a new generation of superstars now taking center stage. The contrast is striking. In 2018, Curry represented the present while Shai symbolized the future. In 2026, those roles have been reversed. Basketball moves quickly, and few stories illustrate that reality better than the journey of a young guard entering the NBA while watching Curry redefine the game, only to eventually become one of the players carrying the league forward himself.
