How do you offer employee benefits as a small business? Do payroll companies even offer health insurance? Chef and small business owner Joe Sasto breaks down what employee benefits actually are, what's required by law, and what optional benefits employees expect from businesses.

How do you offer benefits to employees as a small business?
Start by understanding your two criteria: what's legally mandated and what's optional. required benefits, which are legally mandated. This includes workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, and Social Security/Medicare taxes. Optional benefits include health insurance, dental and vision plans, flexible schedules, wellness programs, and more expansive retirement plans like 401(k)s. Put together a benefits package that makes sense for your business. Think about your business size, industry, employee needs, and budget.

How do you get benefits set up for a small business?
Research what's common in your industry, ask your employees what they value, and pick a platform that centralizes enrollment instead of managing it manually. QuickBooks Workforce's benefits administration tools let you offer options like healthcare, 401(k) plans, and workers' comp with simple enrollment, all managed in one hub.

Do payroll companies typically offer health insurance?
