Cool things I found this week vol. 3. a Sunday download of what actually caught my eye during the week. No theme. Just cool random stuff that moved me.

Christopher McCurdy (mccurdy.photography), a Charlotte based photographer who works almost entirely after dark. His photo essays are something that moves me greatly. Color borders? would’ve never thought of it. I hadn’t seen low light rendered with that much gentleness either, most night photography either crushes the shadows or blows out the light source to compensate. His restraint is the whole point.

Chad Gilbert (xchadballx), founding guitarist of New Found Glory, passed away this morning at 45 after a cancer battle that started in 2021. He was one of the people who actually built easycore, produced some of my favorite records, pushed the scene, not just a participant in it. Still played shows from a mobility scooter earlier this year rather than stop. That’s a PMA most people couldn’t hold for five weeks, let alone five years. Rest easy, Chad. You will be missed, but rest assured, we’ll keep holding it down for you down here.

Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics turned 20 this August, and this anniversary piece comes from Jonnah Moreno (jonnahmoreno). The color synthesis is doing all the work here, nothing muddies, everything holds its lane in the palette. Love the commitment to the color palette and the neo noir approach to the whole thing

The Cowboys’ Silver Season logo, built for the franchise’s 25th anniversary in 1984. What gets me is the craftsmanship, that silver doesn’t read flat or printed, it reads hand rendered, bold in a way that photoshop gradients never quite fake. And it’s smart use of the original star, Jack Eskridge’s mark, rebuilt into something dimensional without losing what made the original work. That’s harder than starting from scratch.
Arguably the best NFL team logo

Ross Cooke (rosscooke), a UK based sport photographer who was on the ground this World Cup, including England vs Mexico at the Azteca. His juxtapositions skip the impact moment for what surrounds it. Cartier-Bresson built a whole la
