September is National Recovery Month, a time to recognize the strength, resilience, and hope found in recovery—and to celebrate the many pathways people take toward healthier, more connected lives. Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey, and strong relationships can play an important role along the way.

Grantee Spotlight: Realness Project

Realness Project believes that lasting recovery begins with healing relationships—starting with the relationship we have with ourselves. Through trauma-informed programming, the organization helps participants build emotional resilience, strengthen communication, and develop the skills needed to foster healthier relationships, supporting mental wellness and long-term recovery.

With support from Caring for Denver, Realness Project is strengthening its Relational Leadership Training for women at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility and individuals preparing to reenter the community through Denver’s Moore Center. Grounded in trauma-informed practices, the program helps participants strengthen emotional regulation, navigate conflict, build trust, and repair relationships while addressing the underlying impacts of trauma, addiction, and mental health challenges. By focusing on these foundational skills before people return to their communities, the program supports healthier transitions and helps interrupt cycles of isolation, substance misuse, and incarceration.

By fostering connection, accountability, and hope, Realness Project is helping Denverites build stronger relationships, improve their mental well-being, and create lasting pathways toward recovery.
