Shin angles matter in agility because they determine where you’re pushing force.

In the Pro Agility Test at the NFL Combine, you have to lower your center of mass, decelerate, redirect force, and re-accelerate. Better ankle and hip mobility helps you get into lower, stronger positions and create cleaner shin angles without overreaching or wasting steps.

A few ways to improve it: knee-to-wall ankle mobility, overhead squats, 90/90 hip rotations, adductor rock-backs, hip hurdle drills, and deceleration/re-acceleration drills.

Eric Wilson (pictured on the turf) is a great example of how mobility translates to performance and longevity. More than a decade after his Cincinnati Pro Day, he’s still competing at a high level in the NFL as a linebacker for the Minnesota Vikings. His mobility was impressive as a draft prospect and his agility has allowed him to continue to play fast even as he ages.

Better mobility → Better positions → Better shin angles → Faster cuts.
