## Caption

Large telephone cables can contain thousands of wire pairs, with some designs reaching around 3,600 pairs. The wires are arranged into smaller groups and identified using standardized color combinations, allowing technicians to trace and connect specific lines without confusing them. This system made it possible to carry enormous numbers of telephone connections through a single cable while keeping the wiring organized and serviceable.
