George Lucas had plans for three more Star Wars films before walking away from the franchise 👀⁠

The creator had begun developing his own sequel trilogy, set after the events of Return of the Jedi, and had story treatments for Episodes VII, VIII and IX before selling Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012.⁠

Lucas later explained that making another trilogy could have taken around 10 years, and at 69 he decided he would rather raise his daughter and “enjoy life for a while” than spend another decade making Star Wars.⁠

One version of his plans would have explored the power vacuum left by the fall of the Empire, with Darth Maul returning as a major crime lord.⁠

Lucas instead stepped away from blockbuster filmmaking, with one of his biggest projects becoming the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which has now opened in Los Angeles after 17 years in development.⁠
