Veganism is built on an assumption about morality that nature itself doesn't support.

Animals aren't kind to each other.

Predators kill prey. Animals fight over territory. They compete for mates. They establish dominance. Some species will literally tear each other apart to survive or mate.

So when someone argues that human beings have a moral obligation to stop eating animals because killing animals is inherently unnatural or immoral, there's a contradiction they need to explain.

Because nature doesn't operate according to vegan ethics.

And here's another inconvenient reality:

Plant agriculture isn't bloodless.

Large-scale commercial farming of soy, almonds, grains, vegetables, and other crops destroys habitats, kills insects, rodents, birds, and other animals, and disrupts entire ecosystems.

So you don't eliminate death by choosing plants.

You choose a different food-production system with a different set of consequences.

And then there's the question of human nutrition.

Humans evolved as omnivores. Our bodies require protein, fats, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. Some nutrients are easier to obtain from animal foods, while others are abundant in plants. A properly planned vegan diet can provide adequate nutrition for many people, but pretending that animal foods have no nutritional value is just as ideological as pretending plants have none.

The bigger problem is when a dietary preference becomes a moral identity.

Because once you've convinced yourself that your diet makes you morally superior, inconvenient facts become very easy to ignore.

You don't have to eat animals.

But don't confuse your personal ethical choice with a law of nature.

Nature isn't vegan.

And morality doesn't come from pretending it is.
