People around the world rallied behind #SaveRajaAmpat, putting the hidden reality of nickel mining in this extraordinary archipelago in the global spotlight. Public pressure helped push the Indonesian government to revoke 4 of 5 mining permits last year, and now Hyundai has publicly stated that it does not use, and does not plan to use, nickel from Raja Ampat.⁣

But the fight is not over.⁣
⁣
Raja Ampat needs more than promises. It needs lasting protection, including officially restricting mining in high-value ecosystems and respecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples and coastal communities.⁣
