Planning a Cape Breton road trip? SAVE this itinerary! 💾

From the iconic Cabot Trail and coastal hikes to beautiful beaches, Scottish heritage, and small-town charm — Cape Breton is one of those places you could easily spend weeks exploring. ✨

DAY 1 — Halifax → Mabou → Inverness
🚗 Drive from Halifax to Mabou — ~4 hours
🥃 Visit Glenora Inn & Distillery for whisky tasting and a taste of Cape Breton’s Scottish heritage
🎶 Grab food, enjoy live music & soak in the local vibe at The Red Shoe Pub
🏖️ Stop at West Mabou Beach Provincial Park for a beach walk or swim
🌙 Drive to Inverness and stay overnight

DAY 2 — Inverness → Chéticamp
🏖️ Start the morning at Inverness Beach — swim, walk or simply relax
⛳ Stop at Cabot Links for stunning ocean views
🥾 Hike the Skyline Trail and catch one of the most iconic views along the Cabot Trail
🌙 Stay overnight in Chéticamp

DAY 3 — Chéticamp → Ingonish
🚗 Continue your drive along the Cabot Trail — and don’t rush this part!
⛰️ Leave plenty of time for scenic viewpoints, photo stops & spontaneous detours
🍽️ Stop in Neil’s Harbour for a meal
🌊 Continue toward Ingonish and spend the night there

DAY 4 — Ingonish → Halifax
🏖️ Explore Ingonish Beach and Ingonish Harbour
🐋 Depending on the season, look for whales or join a whale-watching experience
🚗 Begin the drive back to Halifax

📍 TRAVEL TIP: Cape Breton Highlands National Park is home to some of the most spectacular scenery along the Cabot Trail. Don’t pack your days too tightly — you’ll want extra time for viewpoints, short hikes and those unplanned stops that end up being your favourite part of the trip!

🦞 And of course, don’t leave without trying some local favourites — lobster, fish & chips, oysters, seafood chowder and Scottish shortbread!
