#SZA is officially a New Jersey Hall of Famer! 👏🏽The singer and songwriter was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame Thursday night, joining the ranks of Jersey legends: Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, the Isley Brothers, and more. _________________________
SZA, who was born in St. Louis but raised in Maplewood, shared the accomplishment on Instagram and made it clear that meeting her fellow Jersey icon #DannyDeVito was a highlight of the night. “Got inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame,” SZA wrote. “MORE IMPORTANTLY, I MET #DANNYDEVITO.”

DeVito hosted the induction ceremony at the Dream Live Performing Arts Center at American Dream. The actor was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010. During her heartfelt acceptance speech, SZA reflected on her Jersey roots and the community that helped shape her. “This is probably one of the biggest honors I’ve ever had,” she said.

SZA also shouted out New Jersey’s own Lauryn Hill, noting their connection as both women attended the same high school. “I love Jersey, every corner of Jersey,” SZA said, before reminiscing about working various jobs, from a pizza parlor to a shoe store, and growing up surrounded by a close-knit community.

The Grammy award-winning singer added, “I just love community, and I promise to take that energy of community around the world wherever I go. When it’s time to start a charity or just help other people, I think about how I come from a small town where everybody knows each other’s first and last name. We’ve all participated in each other’s lives and in raising each other, and I’m honored. So thank you so much.” Congrats SZA 💪🏾 ✍🏾#TSRStaffAS
