New York City Mayor #ZohranMamdani announced a $131.5 million settlement with DoorDash after a city investigation found the company underpaid more than 260,000 delivery workers. The city says it is the largest worker settlement in NYC history.

More than $115 million will go directly to affected workers, including some who were underpaid, paid late or not paid at all. The remaining funds will cover civil penalties and other costs.

During the announcement, Mamdani criticized DoorDash CEO #TonyXu over previous comments about using a “greedy algorithm,” arguing that delivery workers had experienced the real-world consequences of that approach. Mamdani also disputed DoorDash’s characterization of the underpayments as mistakes, saying the problems affected hundreds of thousands of workers over several years.

DoorDash acknowledged errors in its payments but said they were unintentional, stating, “Simply put, we screwed up.”

As part of the settlement, DoorDash must provide the city with detailed payment data every month for three years. NYC is also developing a system that will allow workers to share their own trip and payment data with officials to help identify future violations. (📸: gettyimages) ✍🏾: #TSRStaffLG
