#Roomies, California Gov. #GavinNewsom has declared a state of emergency as a powerful El Niño continues to develop in the Pacific Ocean. According to kron4, the proclamation, issued Monday, warns of the “ongoing development of a strong and likely historic El Niño” as California heads into the 2026-2027 wet season. _________________________
If you’re unaware, El Niño is a natural climate pattern that causes unusually warm surface waters in the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean. Officials say the weather pattern could increase the risk of severe storms across California.

The proclamation points to recent “increasingly severe and destructive storms,” including atmospheric river events that have brought widespread flooding, mud and debris flows, landslides, high winds, power outages, road and highway closures, evacuation orders, damage to homes and critical infrastructure, and disruptions to essential services.

In addition, the order also notes that climate change is intensifying weather and hydrologic extremes across the state. Per the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, there is currently a 69% chance that the developing El Niño could reach historic strength between October and December 2026. 🙏🏽✍🏾#TSRStaffAS 📷:( gettyimages )
