A software engineer says AI coding is making software engineering feel miserable, and his post is going viral 🤖

After joining a new role at a major company, he described a workplace where Claude Code and other LLMs are being used for almost everything.

Specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, reports and even ticket resolutions are increasingly generated with AI.
But instead of reducing workloads, he says the pressure to ship has increased.

According to his account, engineers are working 12–13 hour days, with people from L1 to L7 essentially doing the same cycle:

Talk to Claude. Generate. Ship. Repeat.

His biggest frustration isn't that AI writes the code. It's that engineers allegedly aren't given enough time to read, understand or properly review what AI produces before moving to the next task.

“Nobody is thinking anymore.”

This is one engineer describing one workplace, so it shouldn't be treated as representative of the entire software industry.

Still, it highlights a growing tension around AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex and others.

These tools can dramatically increase how fast software is produced. But if companies simply respond by demanding more output, AI may not actually reduce the workload.

Instead, engineers could end up supervising an endless stream of AI-generated code.

So the bigger question is:

If AI makes coding 10x faster, do engineers get their time back, or are they simply expected to produce 10x more?
