AMALGAM | FEATURED ARTIST — DENISA DURICA

As part of our ongoing editorial series highlighting selected artists from AMALGAM: Contemporary Jewellery in Hybrid Systems, we introduce Denisa Durica — a multidisciplinary visual artist and computational designer whose practice moves between artificial intelligence, architecture, computational design, moving image, fashion and immersive environments.

Known as an Architect of Synthetic Realities, Denisa combines mathematical logic with intuition to construct worlds where technology becomes capable of carrying emotion. Her process moves between hand drawing, generative systems, digital structures, AI image-making, animation and film. Rather than treating AI simply as a rendering tool, she approaches it as a co-creative force, allowing systems to evolve and produce unexpected forms while guiding their emotional direction.

For AMALGAM, Denisa presents VESTIGIUM — Trace, Imprint, Remnant, an intimate exploration of motherhood, memory, touch and adornment.

The work begins with a deeply personal memory: a baby resting against her neck. After years of wearing jewellery across her body, the warmth, weight, breath and touch of her children transformed Denisa’s understanding of adornment. Their physical presence left an imprint that no piece of jewellery could replace.

VESTIGIUM therefore depicts no product and represents no physical object. Its adornment is intangible — a feeling carried within the body, shaped by closeness, attachment and transformation. Through the idea of amalgamation, Denisa considers how memories, relationships and identities can merge without disappearing, and how motherhood can reshape identity while preserving traces of the person who existed before.

“A baby resting against my neck became the most beautiful adornment I had ever worn.” — Denisa Durica
