As part of our ongoing editorial series highlighting selected artists from AMALGAM: Contemporary Jewellery in Hybrid Systems, we introduce Lena Korolevich — a Belarusian visual artist based in Warsaw, Poland, whose practice brings together photography, artificial intelligence, conceptual fashion and cinematic image-making.

With more than seven years of experience as a professional photographer, Lena developed a visual language grounded in light, composition, emotion and detail. Rather than leaving photography behind, she expanded this language through artificial intelligence, gaining the freedom to create beyond the physical limitations of locations, production, budgets and the camera itself.

At the heart of Lena’s work is a fascination with the fragile boundary between what appears real and what could almost be real. Her images begin with something familiar and believable before gradually introducing subtle shifts that disrupt our certainty. She is interested in that precise moment when the viewer pauses, looks again and realises that something has changed.

Conceptual fashion becomes the visual language through which she explores perception, realism and imagined realities. Clothing, styling and the human figure anchor her compositions in familiarity, while cinematic interventions quietly move them toward the unexpected.

For Lena, AI is not the subject of the work, but another means of creating the images she imagines. What ultimately matters is not the technology behind an image, but the feeling it leaves behind — the hesitation between recognition and uncertainty, when the familiar becomes strange and curiosity takes over.
