AMALGAM | FEATURED ARTIST — MIHO KINOMURA

As part of our ongoing editorial series highlighting selected artists from AMALGAM: Contemporary Jewellery in Hybrid Systems, we introduce Miho Kinomura (MIOMIO) — a Los Angeles-based AI filmmaker and creative director whose practice exists at the intersection of fashion, beauty, cinema and artificial intelligence.

Miho’s creative trajectory spans more than two decades and several global creative capitals. After establishing herself as a fashion designer in Tokyo, she moved to New York, where she founded a fashion photography agency in Brooklyn and collaborated with internationally renowned photographers including Ellen von Unwerth and David LaChapelle. Since 2005, she has directed major fashion and beauty campaigns, later becoming an early adopter of generative AI within fashion image-making.

For AMALGAM, Miho presents METALLICUM — an AI-driven cinematic work that dissolves the boundaries between human and non-human, organic and synthetic, nature and technology. Jewellery is no longer imagined as passive ornament, but as a living relational entity: a post-human organ capable of connecting with and transforming the body.

Through fluid AI morphing, rigid mineral materials begin to mutate on contact with skin. Metal pulsates and multiplies as micro-circuitry merges with human tissue, transforming the body into a collaborative space where technology and biology become increasingly inseparable.

METALLICUM ultimately imagines a symbiotic future in which adornment is no longer simply worn — it listens, breathes and synchronises with its host. Fashion becomes an interface, jewellery becomes organism, and the material world itself appears to come alive.

“Fashion becomes an interface, and the material world becomes alive.” — Miho Kinomura
