As part of our ongoing editorial series highlighting selected artists from AMALGAM: Contemporary Jewellery in Hybrid Systems, we introduce Giacomo Bevanati — a wire artist based between Manchester and Córdoba, Spain, whose practice moves between fine art, body architecture and avant-garde wearable sculpture.

With a background in Product Design and Architecture, Giacomo brings an understanding of structure, tension and spatial volume into a highly distinctive form of craftsmanship. Through a self-taught freehand sewing and stitching technique, he transforms industrial brass and steel wire into intricate, transparent volumes that exist somewhere between jewellery, sculpture and architecture.

For AMALGAM, Giacomo explores an unexpected convergence of science fiction and historical opulence. A UFO-shaped hat appears alongside sculptural body ornaments inspired by Baroque dress — including the corset, jabot and codpiece — collapsing distinctions between past and future, ancestral references and speculative forms.

At the heart of his practice is the idea of hybridisation. His hand-woven metallic structures do not conceal the body but interact with it, becoming porous, transparent interfaces between wearer and environment. Industrial material takes on an organic quality; armour becomes permeable; historical dress transforms into a futuristic second skin.
