According to the NY State Energy Research and Development Authority, the average price per gallon of home heating oil in NYC this week is $6.50. Last year at this time, it was $3.90. In the Lower Hudson Valley, prices this week averaging $6.22 compared to $3.77 at this time in 2025. Given the high price of diesel and gas, which is the smarter move: buying home heating oil now, or waiting it out in hopes prices go down?
