Your Evo doesn't look off because the offset is wrong. It looks off because the tire is too small for the arch and everyone keeps blaming the number on the back of the barrel.

1. Stock is 17x8 +38 on 235/45R17, 5x114.3, 67.1 hub bore. That +38 wasn't a random pick — it's what centers an 8" wheel in a factory-flared arch with a strut that doesn't want extra leverage. Start every conversation from there, not from a photo of a car on air.

2. The Brembos set the floor before anything else. GSR/MR fronts eat clearance, so 17" is the realistic minimum and barrel shape matters more than diameter. A "17x9" with a lazy inner spoke face will kiss the caliper while a properly stepped one clears with room. Ask for the caliper drawing. Every reputable shop has one.

3. At stock height, 17x9 +35 with a 255/40 is the honest answer. Fills the arch, keeps the scrub radius close to factory, doesn't turn your steering rack into a cardio machine on turn-in.

4. Lowered changes the math, not the width. Drop 1.5" and the top of the tire swings out toward the fender lip long before the outer edge does. Same wheel that cleared at stock ride height now sits into the liner at full compression — that's camber and arch geometry talking, not offset. Fix it with negative camber and a rolled lip, not by chasing a +45 to hide from the problem.

5. Filled out beats poked, always. An Evo looks meanest when the tire meets the flare and stops. Also budget the "quick" test fit properly: one wheel on, one hour, right? Three hours later you're on your second trip for a longer breaker bar and you've decided the fender roller can wait until spring.

Save this — future you at the parts counter will thank you.
