Guy in the group chat spent eight months shopping 992 Carreras, talked himself into a $110k allocation game, then watched a 2012 Black Edition sell for $57k in a parking lot in Ohio while he was still "waiting for the right spec." He's fine. He'll be fine. He just doesn't want to talk about it.

That's the whole R35 situation right now. The depreciation curve isn't telling you the car got worse — it's telling you Nissan built 15 years of the same platform and the market finally has supply. The hardware never softened. Hand-assembled VR38DETT twin-turbo 3.8, GR6 dual-clutch transaxle mounted at the rear, ATTESA E-TS pulling power forward when the rears give up. 480hp on the early CBA cars, 545 on the 2012+ DBA, 565 on MY17 and up. Nothing about that got cheaper to build. It just got cheaper to buy.

What you actually budget for, because this is where people get hurt: transmission fluid service on a real schedule and not when it starts clunking, bellhousing and clutch pack health verified before money changes hands, and tires. Factory is 255/40R20 front and 285/35R20 rear on 20x9.5 +45 and 20x10.5 +25 — that rear offset is why so many R35s on aftermarket wheels look wrong. People chase width and forget the car came with a 20mm offset gap front to rear for a reason. Get that wrong and no amount of drop fixes it.

The early CBA cars are the value play. Slower on paper, same chassis, same launch, and the money you save covers a proper trans service plus a set of wheels that actually fit the arch.

Everyone's still arguing about whether it counts as a real sports car. Meanwhile the guys who bought at $55k are running 10s on stock turbos.

Save this before you buy the wrong setup.
