For women with diabetes, pregnancy planning begins before conception.

At Diabetes in Pregnancy – Evidence to Excellence, Dr Georgy Joy Eralil highlighted the importance of optimising diabetes management during the preconception period and pregnancy, including appropriate glucose-lowering strategies and careful glycaemic control.

She also emphasised the importance of early and timely fetal assessment, including first-trimester anatomy evaluation, detailed second-trimester anomaly screening and fetal echocardiography, to help identify congenital abnormalities at the earliest possible stage.

A reminder that in diabetes and pregnancy, early planning, close monitoring and timely assessment can make a meaningful difference.
